A Kariega man accused of the brutal murder of his pregnant girlfriend is expected to enter a plea agreement with the state on Wednesday.
Appearing briefly in the Gqeberha high court on Tuesday Corney Goodman, 32, was consoled by a family relative shortly before the court heard that defence and state were busy finalising the drafting of a plea agreement.
The Tiryville resident is accused of the June 2023 murder of Michaella Mofokeng, 24, who was stabbed to death after an argument between the pair.
Goodman faces an additional charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he allegedly stabbed another man who tried to intervene in the argument.
It is alleged on June 28 2023, Goodman and Mofokeng were embroiled in an argument which was witnessed by three other Tiryville residents.
One of the witnesses, who lives in a nearby shack, heard the argument and went to investigate.
He allegedly saw the pair arguing and that Goodman had held Mofokeng by her shoulder with his left hand and stabbed her with a knife in his right hand.
When the man attempted to intervene, he was allegedly stabbed by Goodman.
Mofokeng died at the scene with a post mortem report finding the cause of death to be blood loss due to a stab wound to the chest.
After the stabbing, Goodman allegedly fled the scene but was later caught by community members and assaulted.
He was arrested later that same day and has been in custody since.
